Sarah Burke

about

I live, work and play on lÉ™k̓ʷəŋən Territory and am grateful to the Nations whose land we are on. I am a Welsh-born settler to Canada. I acknowledge the culture and history of my homeland while also loving the life I lead on the West Coast. My passion lies in social change and community impact. I have dedicated my career to providing services to communities and organisations with shared visions and values. I take a collaborative approach to my work, always listening first to understand the unique ideas, needs and challenges of my clients. Together, we co-create solutions that are practical, effective, and make a lasting impact. We can learn so much from our land and its endurance. It is through persistence and adaptability that we find and bring resilience to a project beyond our time with it.

I bring a wealth of experience as a creative project manager with a proven track record of delivering results. My perspective as someone who is outside the community has often enabled me to engage with diverse audiences effectively, fostering trust and collaboration with no other agenda than centering the needs of the people for the success of the project. I have been fortunate most recently to be the project manager of a building and program design project for Nunavut’s first addictions and trauma treatment centre. This complex building project valued at over $70 million was multi-phased and Inuit-led.

With a strong background in leadership, community engagement, and the management of complex projects, complemented by a Masters in Leading Innovation and Change, I have developed a deep commitment to community-minded leadership. My experience includes working closely with committees and communities to design services and processes that honour cultural differences and balance various visions. I have worked with Elders and knowledge keepers in all my projects and value their learning and wise ways as critical voices.

I have been fortunate to have worked across many communities in Canada learning and supporting the work in community.  My skills include change management, political awareness, and a forward-thinking approach complemented by my ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, encouraging and respecting a wide range of perspectives. I am adept at working within a community environment as well as large organizations, proactively and addressing and resolving conflicts as they arise.

I have advanced relationship-building skills and have consistently brought teams together in small and multi-year projects to achieve desired outcomes. I am motivated by the significance and the profound opportunity presented by inspiring projects.

Supporting social change is our goal.
